When we visit Georgia, we like to visit High Falls State Park. When visited on May 26, 2007, the effects of the droughts were overly obvious. The falls had virtually stopped running and the river was mostly dried up. Even though you are not supposed to walk on the river rocks, being a drought or no drought, I found myself off exploring the terrain.

Hi Joe
Just looking at your dry river photos at High Falls. Our Aussie rivers normally look like that, but it is not how I imagine your rivers to look.
Just wondering if there is any mining in the area? We have problems with mining cracking the beds of rivers, and the water just disappears. Or maybe it is just drought, as you suggest.
Denis
I am not sure about the minng; however Georgia has faced a sever drought for some time that raised some real concerns aout thier overall status of drinking water.
If you look at my pictures from our last trip to the Ocmulgee Indian Mounds, the Ocmulgee River is also extremely low. We are also standing on the river bed (clay) that exhibits very little water. This winter has brought some much needed rain to the region; however, its not enough to bring the levels back to near normal.
The pictures for the Ocmulgee Indian Mounds blog were removed? I have re-loaded them and hope that I loaded the sames ones form before!
